QR-Code validity - can my QR-Code expire?

When creating a QR-Code, one usually does not think about this at first. But later the question arises: what about the validity of my QR-Code? Can it expire? What happens then and what can I do if it has been deactivated?

Here we must first distinguish between static and dynamic QR-Codes. If a static code has been generated, there is no cause for concern at first. Usually, these can be used permanently free of charge and do not have a limited duration. In other words, they do not expire or get deactivated.

Dynamic QR-Codes, on the other hand, are completely different. Those are chargeable services with a limited runtime. Even if the code can be created free of charge at the beginning, this is usually only a free trial period that allows you to try out the product without obligation. Once the trial period has expired, however, the validity of the QR-Code will also expire and it becomes deactivated. But don’t panic: the validity can be extended so that the QR-Code is reactivated.

To do this, follow the steps below:
  1. Log in to the website where you originally generated the QR-Code (if you do not know the login details, simply contact the site’s support).
  2. In the account, there will be a menu point called „Payment“, „Renewal“, „Premium Membership“ or something similar. There you can book a chargeable package that will extend your membership.
  3. Once the payment has been completed, your account will be renewed and your QR-Code will be reactivated so that you can continue using it.

However, these payments are not one-time payments. Typically, you will need to renew your membership on a monthly or yearly basis if you wish to continue using the QR-Codes. Before your QR-Code expires, however, you should receive an information e-mail from the operator, so you don’t have to be afraid that your code will suddenly be deactivated without your knowledge.
